The drying room was used to dry out the corn, barley or oats before grinding.

The floor contains tiles each with small holes which allow warm air to rise through from a kiln (below right) on the floor below.

Once dried the grain would be shovelled down a chute in the corner to be bagged on the floor below.

The internal supporting wall underneath the drying room has become unstable, so as a temporary measure all the tiles have been removed to take some weight off (below left). Hopefully work can be carried out to restore the drying room in this original state.
